In Acts 13 we learn of a church started in the city of
Antioch by believers who fled persecution in Jerusalem
during the early days of the church. They were on the
cutting edge. They were the first to be called Christians;
this is where the name we use today to identify ourselves
as believers in Christ came from. They were involved in
dynamic ministry as a local church, reaching out to not
only Jews but also to Gentiles. They were the first to
intentionally send out missionaries to other parts of
the world.
So what was it about them that made them so cutting
edge dynamic? As we consider the question, who do you
minister to, we make that discovery! They ministered in
three directions: upward, inward, and outward! As we dig
into these verses we will learn the importance of what
I call the three vital involvements.
