Four times in chapter one Joshua is instructed to be strong and courageous. He is up for a big task. His mentor Moses is now dead and the time has come for Israel to cross over the Jordan River. God taps Joshua on the shoulder as the person to take over the lead role.

Joshua needed to hear the words to be strong and courageous. As we drill deeper into the text we see that they are a lot more than a pep talk. With each there is an instruction for how to specifically be strong and courageous. These instructions work today for being victorious – listen, learn and apply what the Lord shows you.
