In this passage, Israel learns how to know what course they are to take and how to stay on that course. They have just finished the victory at Ai. Instead of rolling ahead into the next battle they pause and learn several important lessons. The bottom line is obedience, but as they gather together they learn the important hows and whys. The scene is between two mountains about thirty miles north of Ai. All the people gather and they listen to Joshua as he follows instructions that Moses gave when he wrote the book of Deuteronomy.

What can we learn and apply from this interlude that Israel takes from their advancing forward? What might be the benefit for us if we take some mountain time to connect with God?
