Lament and assurance, two sides of the same coin called
the faithful life. This is the message given by Phil
Detweiler on Sunday morning of their visit to
Gulfhaven.
The Lindell Detweilers live in Pietermaritzburg, South
Africa, where they work in collaboration with three churches
in different provinces to implement social ministry programs.
This work includes programs addressing HIV and AIDS,
sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurship, administrative
capacity building, community grassroots mobilization,
children's ministry, and worldwide mission mobilization.
Prior to beginning their work in South Africa in late
2005, Phil and Christine had served nearly 10 years in
the West African country of Benin.
Phil and Christine have three children – Nathan,
turning15; Annika, 12, and Lydia, 9. Their home congregation
is
Pleasant View Mennonite Church, Goshen, Indiana.
