“In the beginning God created the heavens and the
earth.” In Genesis 1:1 we marvel in the awesomeness
of God. In His creative act, the existence of God is revealed.
Paul opens his opportunity to speak in Athens on this
subject in the same fashion. In Acts 17:24, he says “The
God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord
of heaven and earth...”
These words are response to his discovery of their worship
of an idol with the inscription – TO AN UNKNOWN
GOD. Paul sees this as an opportunity to declare to them
that God is! These words of Paul lend themselves to our
study of theology proper, the study of God.
